| WHY A WALK FOR VALUES? |
中文版 |
The Purpose of the walk for Values is to give members of the community, participating organisations and students a clearer understanding of the importance of a values-based life.
Our Nation is changing rapidly as we are confronted with common challenges such as technological advancements, global warming and other ecological and social pressures. These have an impact on us in all that we do, including at home and at work. We each need to take responsibility for how we live. It’s now about making choices that benefit not just ourselves, but everyone.
It’s pretty clear we need to revert to a sustainable life-style that doesn’t use an excess of resources and at the same time pollute our environment. But is this achievable? You bet! The key lies in each one of us knowing how best to manage ourselves, not others.
How? By committing ourselves to practice values that, for many generations, have united communities and made nations strong. There are five values universal to all lands, peoples, religions, civil societies, etc. – Truth, Love, Peace, Right Conduct and Non-Violence.
We actually see these values at work in our everyday lives in the form of Honesty as an aspect of Truth; Compassion as an expression of Love; Contentment as a component of Peace; Courage as an example of Right Conduct; and Appreciation of other cultures as a demonstration of Non-Violence.
